Site Description and Use

According to the Muscogee County Tax Assessor’s Office, the site is identified as Parcel Numbers: 008 009 010, 008 009 009, and 008 009 008 (approximately 0.6 acre) located at 3617, 3619, and 3707 2nd Avenue in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. The site consists of a commercial building, a warehouse, associated parking, and a vacant residential lot. The owner of the site, Fuller Psalmond Investments, LLC maintains the site.

Historical Information

The site is listed as 3617, 3619, 3703, and 3707 2nd Avenue. According to the historical reports, the site was undeveloped in 1908. According to the Sanborn maps, historical aerial photographs, and city directories, 3707 2nd Avenue was a creamery in 1929, Leebern Furniture in 1931 and 1936, and a Skinner’s furniture store from 1941 to 1991. The site was later Discount Fabrics in 2002 and Discount Fabrics and Game Outlet from 2005 to 2014. The residential structure at 3703 2nd Avenue was constructed by at least 1931 and was demolished between 1950 and 1955 and the furniture building was expanded. The residential structure at 3619 2nd Avenue was constructed by at least 1931 and was demolished after 2002 and a parking lot was constructed. The residential structure at 3617 2nd Avenue was constructed by at least 1921 and was demolished after 2017. To the north of the site, 3709 2nd Avenue is listed as Hancock Dry Cleaners and a barber shop in 1931 and a barber shop from 1936 to 1991. Majestic Cleaners is listed in 3608 1st Avenue in 1971. To the east of the site, a dry cleaner is listed at 3608 2nd Avenue from 1946 to 1979, a dry cleaner is listed at 3610 2nd Avenue in 1931 and 1941, and a dry cleaner is listed at 3712 2nd Avenue from 1946 to 1965. To the north of the site, Tom’s Cleaner is listed at 3802 2nd Avenue from 1946 to 1950 and Snow Dry Cleaners is listed at 3804 2nd Avenue from 1955 to 1965.
